TECHNICAL NOTES
MSDS Scan Wizard accesses data in a file-based method using Visual Basic 3.0 as the development language and Microsoft Jet 2.5 as the database engine. All MSDS records have two components of data. One is a scanned MSDS image which is stored separately from the data in a system defined location and filename. If the MSDS has multiple pages, all of the pages are stored in the same file; the format of which is a multi-page TIFF using Group III black and white compression. The average size of a single compressed page is 60K. The average MSDS has four pages making the average total 240K per MSDS or approximately 25 MB per 100 MSDSs. The second part of an MSDS record is the keywords used to identify and retrieve the MSDS record. This data is stored in a single Jet database file. The archived data is stored in a separate Jet database file.
